Do you have a question? We have an answer.

When should I use a primer on the outside of my house?
All new, unpainted surfaces of wood, metal and masonry will need a coat of either a general primer or a rust-inhibitive primer. You’ll need to prime previously painted surfaces where the bare wood or metal is exposed (after you have removed deteriorating paint or loose rust) or if the surface is very chalky.

How many coats of house paint will I need?
Two coats of house paint are recommended when coating new, primed surfaces. A two-coat application will provide additional protection in extreme climates.

Does the quality of paint affect the color?
The best paints have deeper, richer colors that will resist fading better than others. The cheaper ones will leave your house looking tired and in need of a fresh coat in only a couple of years.

What color should I paint my drainpipes?
They should always match the color of the surface on which they sit. The overall goal is to blend them into the structure.

When is the best time to paint?
Temperatures of 60-70 degrees or higher are recommended, with 50 degrees being the lowest. If possible avoid direct sunlight.

How often should I repaint my house?
Your house should be painted every five to eight years.

What is the drying time for exterior latex paint?
The drying time to recoat is 4-5 hours.

Why should I spend a bit more money on a brush or a roller cover?
High-quality brushes and roller covers hold more paint and stain, and deliver a more uniform coating than inexpensive brushes and rollers; this creates a more dense and opaque coating in just one application. Investing in a good brush will produce better-looking results.

Painting Tip!
To make your paint job easier, start with the ceiling, then move onto walls, windows and trim. Finish with the door.

Staining Tip!
When staining your deck, test the color in several spots. The appearance of the stain will vary from one wood to another because woods differ in color, texture and porosity.
